The picture shows the Naturalization Paper for Fredrick Ellingson that he received in 1894 while living in Cavalier County, North Dakota. Notice that his Declaration of Intent for Citizenship was made in 1876 in Freeborn County, Minnesota. Also notice that Halvor Olsen was one of the two people who signed their names to the paper indicating his acceptability in becoming a citizen of the United States. I am sure that Halvor would have been his son-in-law (Fredrick's daughter Gjertrud's husband) who was mentioned in the previous entry of Wednesday October 22.

The picture is of my g-grandfather's (Nub Fredrickson) sister Gjertrud Olson and her husband. She emigrated to the United States from Norway in 1876 with her father. They settled near Gordonsville, Minnesota in the County of Freeborn. In 1879 she married Halvor Olson Underbakke. Eventually they moved to Cavalier County, North Dakota with another sister and her family and her father Fredrick Ellingson (and possibly her mother). In 1908 Gjerturd, Halvor, and family moved to Kuroki, Saskatchewan, Canada where she died in 1939.

This is a picture of my gg-grand Aunt Etta M. Case. Her maiden name was Young. Her parents were John S. and Mary B.C. Young (ggg-grandparents). She was married to Harry Case for a brief time before he died. She was born in 1867 and died in 1957. She is one of three daughters of John and Mary Young that I have been able to get pictures of. The other two are my gg-grandmother Emma (entry - Oct.9, 2008) and Sarah (entry - Apr.10, 2007).

The only two ancestors I know of who voted for a particular political party throughout their voting lives are my grandfather Joseph Marcuson and my gg-grandfather Lorenzo Weinhart. My Dad growing up on the family farm remembers his father, Joseph, as always being a devout Republican. Lorenzo was twice the Republican mayor for the city of Ankeny, Iowa. From 1940 to 1954 while living in California he was registered as a Republican. The picture shows him registered as a Republican in 1940.

I received this picture years ago. It was either from a lady sending me material about the Meader family or another lady who sent me material about the Weinhart family. Both of these families are on my mother's side and are connected by my g-grandmother Elsie Meader (maiden name being Weinhart). I had no idea who the ladies in the picture were. For awhile I thought they might be two of Elsie's sisters but a grandson of her youngest sister was unable to recognize either one. Just recently a relative sent me some pictures of my grandfather Orren Elles Meader's family. One of the pictures she sent me was the exact same as this one. The picture is of Orren's sister Jesse (smaller one on the right side) who was born in 1884 and died in 1911. The other person is just a friend of hers. Mystery solved.

The picture is of John Edward Meader and his wife Emma Ann Meader (maiden name was Young) and their family. John was born in Henry County, Ohio in 1848 and Emma was born in Tipton County, Indiana in 1851. They met and married in Polk County, Iowa in the later half of the 1860's. During their marriage they lived in three different states. These were Iowa, Kansas, and Minnesota. Emma's ggg-granddaughter, my Mother, and her husband ended up moving to Elwood, Indiana in 1948 from Minnesota. Elwood is only about 10 miles from where Emma was born though we didn't realize it until about 60 years later.

It appears that my g-grandfather Sjur and his brother Lars had a younger sister that came to Goodhue County from Norway also. Ingeborg was born in 1830 and most likely she made the voyage in 1858. In 1859 she married Elling Olsen in the town of Holden. In the 1865 census Lars was staying with them. This is the period of time when he had got quite sick and his leprosy began to appear (see September 21st entry). Being family Ingeborg took care of him. The map shows where they lived in Wanamingo Township, Goodhue County. The blue square is the Elling Olsen farm.
This is a blog about my ancestors.
