This is a picture of the church that may gg-grandparents, Kristen and Brita Bendixson, attended in the 1820's, 30's, 40', and 50's. The church is located in the Arnafjord in the province of Vik that is found along the Sogn Fjord in Norway. My gg-grandfather was born and raised on the Nistad farm which is just across the fjord from the church. My ggg-grandmother was born on the Nese farm which is where the church is located.  ¶ 2:42 PM 0 comments

 
My ggg-grandparents John S. Young and his wife Mary B.C. Young (they were cousins) are of special interest to me. For about six years they lived on a farm outside of Tipton, Tipton County, Indiana and then for about four more they lived in Tipton. This is only about ten miles from where I presently live and I have been able to pretty much reconstruct their ten years there using county records. The picture shows a timeline of John and Mary and those people associated with them from 1846 to 1861.  ¶ 10:49 AM 1 comments

 
Ellis E. Young was born probably in Wayne County in 1836. Along with my ggg-grandmother Mary B.C. Young, Ellis was one of eight known children of Evan and Elizabeth Young who lived their final years in Hamilton County. Evan died between 1855 and 1860 and Elizabeth died in 1868. Ellis and his sister Anna were the only two of the Young children to remain in Indiana. Ellis remained in Hamilton County and Anna lived near Tipton in Tipton County. Ellis died in 1908 and is buried in the Arcadia Cemetery in Hamilton County which is less than ten miles from my present home. Located in the Cicero Cemetery which would be about five to ten miles from Arcadia are the graves of Ellis's first wife and children, a set of twins. The picture shows my g-grandfather's farm in the lower right hand corner. His name is Sever Markusson (spelled Marckuson on the map). It shows that his farm was known as the Dyrdal farm. Dyrdal is the name of the farm he grew up on in Norway. What caught my attention though was the number of farms that had a name. For example there was a Willowood Park Farm, a Fernwood Farm, the Dokken Homestead Farm, and the Poplar Grove Farm. Another g-grandfather of mine who lived in the next county but only about a mile away from the Dyrdal farm called his farm the Gunhus Estates.  ¶ 10:24 AM 0 comments
