Sylvanus Knight was my ggg-grandmother's (Beulah Fish Weinhart) second husband and step-father to my gg-grandfather Lorenzo Dow Weinhart. Sylvanus and Beulah were married in August, 1860 about six months after her first husband died. Sylvanus was very mechanically inclined. The picture shows part of his patent for improvements for an animal trap. This was dated December 12, 1865 and that at this time he along with Beulah were living in the city of Adel, in Dallas County, and in the state of Iowa.

Comments:
My g.g.grandfather was William Hoffstot one of the Witnesses who signed the patent. Williams first wife was Mary Knight daughter of Sylvanus. Have you ever came across that name before?

Nanny. My main concern with Sylvanus was that he married my great-great-great grandmother. They married about 6 months after her first husband died. Before their marriage I know little about him. Before moving to Iowa he lived I believe in Randolph county, Indiana and was mechanically gifted. He had one son with his second wife that was also mechanically inclined. This son also had several patents. Sylvanus's first wife I think died in Indiana. I know he had several children by his first wife but I really don't know anything about them. No I can't recall the name of Hoffstot.
