Sometime before 1800 Anne (nee Smith) Burgess (one of my 6th g-grandmothers) and her family traveled from Prince George County, Maryland to Fayette County, Pennsylvania.  Some sources said that her husband, Basil Burgess died while making the journey but other sources say he died before the journey began.  I tend to believe the latter.  If so why did Anne make this journey with her family?  My answer to this question (and it is just a guess) is that Basil had been given land in Northwestern Maryland for his part in the Revolutionary War (he was a lieutantent).  After Basil's death Anne traveled there with her family to claim it but for some reason continued traveling to Fayette County, Pennsylvania where a friend of the family lived.  She decided to stay there and purchased a plot of land from this friend.  She died in 1806.  The picture is of her will.  ¶ 10:52 AM
