Sometime before 1800 Anne (nee Smith) Burgess (one of my 6th g-grandmothers) and her family traveled from Prince George County, Maryland to Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Some sources said that her husband, Basil Burgess died while making the journey but other sources say he died before the journey began. I tend to believe the latter. If so why did Anne make this journey with her family? My answer to this question (and it is just a guess) is that Basil had been given land in Northwestern Maryland for his part in the Revolutionary War (he was a lieutantent). After Basil's death Anne traveled there with her family to claim it but for some reason continued traveling to Fayette County, Pennsylvania where a friend of the family lived. She decided to stay there and purchased a plot of land from this friend. She died in 1806. The picture is of her will.
Of my four sets of g-grandparents I have pictures of only three sets of them. The only g-grandparents I lack a picture of are of Sjur and Ingeborg Markuson, my father's fraternal grandparents. They both died before my father was born and Ingeborg who died twenty plus years after Sjur lived only long enough to see my father's siblings as young children. My father's parents evidently spoke very little of them and if there was a picture of the two somewhere in the household Dad was unaware of it. Other researchers (descendents) of Sjur and his family (wife and ancestors) have also been unable to locate a picture of Sjur and/or his wife Ingeborg. A hope is someone who might be reading this would be a descendent of Sjur and Ingeborg and have in their possession a picture of the two or at least one of them that they can share. The picture accompanied this is of several stories about Sjur as told by one of his granddaughters.
